Description	:	Ivan H. Gilman July 10, 1922-July 10, 2012 Resident of Walnut Creek Ivan H. Gilman passed away peacefully at home on his 90th birthday, July 10, 2012. He was born in Palmyra, New York, the youngest child of Peter and Cornelia Gilman. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Gilman passed away peacefully at home on his 90th birthday, July 10, 2012. He was born in Palmyra, New York, the youngest child of Peter and Cornelia Gilman. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army, 83rd Armored Division from 1943-1945, rising from Second Lieutenant to Captain. Ivan married Patricia Simpson on February 19, 1944 while both were serving in the military. Following his military service and graduation from college, he worked for Chevron Corporation in numerous capacities and retired in 1985 as Director of the Environmental Affairs Department. In 1958 Ivan played an instrumental role in the incorporation of the city of Pleasant Hill and was named Pleasant Hill Man of the Year. Ivan enjoyed wood carving and studying the French language as well as reading and traveling. He served as a board member of StateNet in Sacramento from 1985-1997, and was a member of the National Woodcarvers Association. He is survived by his four daughters, Barbara Bahler of Stockton, CA; Patricia and Nouhal Moukadem of Tripoli, Lebanon; Susan and Gary Norgan of Hemet, CA and Nancy and Bill Prather of Ojai, CA; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the team members of Hospice of the East Bay for their care and compassion during Ivan's last days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army, one of Ivan's favorite charities. Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel, 1139 Saranap Avenue in Walnut Creek. Contributor: Yvonne - [email protected]
