Jack was born June 1, 1928, in Wenatchee, WA, to Felton and Marion (Northrup) Shriner. He spent his entire life in Orondo, except for the two years he served in the Army protecting Hanford with his "big guns". He, along with Neil Barber and Fred Larson, (his stepfather), purchased 120 acres of land around 1953 for $25 an acre, in anticipation of losing old homesteads under the rising water of Rocky Reach Dam. Jack and Ardie spent the next 56 years tending to the land, planting different varieties of apples, peaches and nectarines. For many years, he grew, packed and delivered his own fruit to Seattle. Jack married Ardis Johns on july 17, 1954. Their first home was a two room cabin. He moved his growing family into the family home (that he also built) in 1957. Jack and Ardie had five children, Scott, Susan, Dennis, Allen and Trish. Jack loved to hunt and fish and to shoot trap. He was a dedicated volunteer firefighter, converting two trucks into brush rigs, and he was always ready to respond to the call. Jack could make or fix almost anything mechanical. He served on the Orondo School Board and the LeMaster Scholarship Fund for many years. He was one of the founders of the Orondo Dollars for Scholars. Jack and Ardie and their families enjoyed camping and many family get-togethers. Jack and Ardie farmed the land until 2009. They moved to Wenatchee last spring. Jack leaves his wife, Ardie; children, Scott and Dee Shriner, Susan and Mike Boeggeman, Dennis and Theresa Shriner, and Trish and Bruce Blevins; seven grandchildren, Jocelyn and Darrin Flitton, Jennifer and Philip Elam, Joshua and Matthew Blevins, Laura, Emma and Grace Shriner; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Freda Madson. He was preceded in death by one son, Allen Shriner, in 2001; by brother, Dale Shriner; and two sisters, Joyce Roberts and Doris Thrush. The family would like to thank Dr. Clarke and Central Washington Hospice for their tender care of Jack during his final days. There will be a Celebration of Jack's life at the Orondo Community Church on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. Food and fellowship will follow.
