Son of Max Mardis Coffey and Kathryn Lucille Alley OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, April 2, 1996 COFFEY Jack Clyde Coffey was born March 26, 1944 at the Yocom Hospital in Chariton, Iowa to Mardis and Kathryn Coffey. He passed away suddenly on March 24, 1996 at the age of 51. Jack was a lifelong resident of southern Iowa. He started school at May Country School in Lucas County. He continued his education at LeRoy and graduated from Mormon Trail High School in 1962. He went on to complete a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University. Jack was united in marriage to Lois Ivalee Kost at LeRoy. He was a loving son, brother, husband and father. He was happy to dedicate his life to his love of southern Iowa. Jack served as the Rathbun Area Wildlife Biologist from 1967 to 1996. Jack loved life. Every day was a joy for him. He enjoyed many hobbies, especially outdoor activities. He was an avid fisherman as well as hunter. He shared his skills with many people. Jack rarely went anywhere without seeing someone he knew. He loved to take time to stop and visit with all his acquaintances and friends. He was a member of several wildlife organizations including The Wildlife Society and the Iowa State Chapter of The Wildlife Society, The National Wild Turkey Federation, Pheasants Forever, and Ducks Unlimited. He was also a member of the Chariton Masonic Lodge No. 63 A.F. & A.M. Jack was preceded in death by his father, Mardis Coffey, mother-in-law, Georgia Kost, and his grandparents. Jack is survived by his wife, Ivalee of Russell, daughter, Sandra Lee Piatt and husband, Brad of Madrid; son, James Mardis Coffey and friend, Lisa Walenga of Indianola; his mother, Kathryn Coffey Reno and husband, Roy of LeRoy; father-in-law, Ivan Kost of Humeston; two brothers, Jake Coffey and wife, Mary of Weldon, and Randy Coffey of Des Moines; his sister, Linda Clifton and husband, Denny of Albany, Mo.; step-brother, Jim Reno and wife, Glenis of Norwalk; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 27, 1996, at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. James Gubser officiating. Burial was in the Humeston Cemetery. Serving as bearers were Art Roseland, Lyle Asell, Dr. Terry Little, Richard Bishop, Dr. David Randall and Richard Arnold. Chuck Steffen and Bruce Fistler served as honorary bearers. Masonic services were conducted by the Chariton Masonic Lodge No. 63 A.F. & A.M. at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 26.
