Burial will be in St. Ann's Catholic Cemtery with military rites. Jack D. Fanning was born May 26, 1926, the son of John W. (Jack) and Jessie (Perrott) Fanning, in Hand County and grew up there. He attended school in St. Lawrenace. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was on the first flag ship to enter Tokyo Bay before the signing of the Peace Treaty with Japan. He married Irene Beaner on December 30, 1947 in Miller. He worked in agriculture related areas all his life; as manager of the St. Lawrence Elevator, GPA Feed Sales Representative in the central and western areas of South Dakota and farming. He was active in the American Ag Movement during the late 70's and 80's. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Parish. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, VFW Post 3214 and the American Legion. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Marlene (Jim)Gentile of Valley City, N.D.; and five sons, John (Penny) of Tea, Gerald (Bobbi) of St. Lawrence, Jeffrey (Sherry) of Harrisburg, Ore., Randy (Teresa) of Wessington and Jay of St. Lawrence; five granddaguthers, Brandy, Bobbi Joe, Katrina, Brittany, and Jacki Fanning; ten grandson, Jim and Brett Gentile, Heath, Derek, Jack, Quentin, Blaine, Matthew, Jesse and Eric Fanning; two great-granddaughters, Samantha and Alyssa Fanning; five sisters, Nadine Fanning of Reno, Nev., Ann (Larry) Miller of Harrison, Alaska, Dessie (Gene) Price of Miller, Donna (Bernie) Coss of Miller and Beth (Leo) Veskrna of Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Jessie; two sons, Michael and Joel; one granddaughter, Sara; three sisters, Cleo Bryant, Lorraine Smithers and Leone Perkins; four brothers, Vince,Joe (Bub), Gary and Larry; his father-in-law and moter-in-law, Rupert and Mary Beaner. Active pallbearers will be Paul Coss, Dan Coss, Craig Price, Shane Price, Ted Perkins and Ron Perkins. Honorary pallbearers will be all his many friends.
