Description	:	Jack Emerson Brady 87, of Tacoma, died at his home at Point Defiance Village on August 11, 2008. Mr. Brady was born February 26, 1921 in Georgia. He joined the US Army and was sent to the Philippines where, at the age of 21, he was surrendered on Bataan and survived the Bataan Death March. After imprisonment by the Japanese in the Philippines, he was shipped to prison camps in Japan, where he spent the 3U years until liberation in September 1945. Read More	Jack Emerson Brady 87, of Tacoma, died at his home at Point Defiance Village on August 11, 2008. Mr. Brady was born February 26, 1921 in Georgia. He joined the US Army and was sent to the Philippines where, at the age of 21, he was surrendered on Bataan and survived the Bataan Death March. After imprisonment by the Japanese in the Philippines, he was shipped to prison camps in Japan, where he spent the 3U years until liberation in September 1945. Mr. Brady earned two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for his service. After the war Mr. Brady rejoined the Army and became aofficer, retiring after 20 years with the rank of Major. He and his wife, Audrey, settled in Tacoma. After his military retirement he attended the University of Puget Sound, obtained a degree in mathematics and became a teacher in the Peninsula School District, and later at Annie Wright Seminary. He was active in and served as a service officer in several veterans' organizations, including American Ex-Prisoners of War, and American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor. Mr. Brady was admired as a man with much honor and integrity, who repeatedly expressed surprise when he found other people without it. Mr. Brady's wife of 40 years, Audrey, died in 1987. He is survived by his three children two grandchildren, and his brother . A memorial service will be held on Thursday August 21 at 1:00 pm at Temple Beth El (5975 South 12th Street in Tacoma.) After the service, all are invited to a gathering at the Temple for refreshments. His remains will be placed at Tahoma National Cemetery in a private ceremony.
