He passed away Monday, June 8, 1998, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska, at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 6 days. He attended rural elementary schools and graduated from Nelson High School in 1946. Jack served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from January 30, 1951, until honorably discharged on January 29, 1953. August 8, 1974, in Mankato, Kansas, he was married to Marilyn Powell. They lived on the DeHart farm near Deweese, Nebraska. He also owned and operated a welding shop in Nelson for several years. He had a knack for repairs. If it was fixable, he could fix it. Jack loved horses and worked on saddles and harnesses. He also loved to garden. Preceding him in death by his parents and a step-son, James Powell. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, Superior, Nebraska; two daughters, Jean Ann Stichka and her husband Greg and Jackie Jensen and her husband Tom, all of Oak, Nebraska; a son, Jay DeHart of Ventura, California; two step-sons, Jim Chapman of Nelson, Nebraska, and Melvin Powell and his wife Diane of Edgar, Nebraska; one sister, Gretchen White and her husband Jake of Superior, Nebraska; five grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 11, 1998, at 2 p.m. at Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel, Superior, Nebraska, with Pastor Lance Clay officiating. Music was "Beyond The Sunset" and "In The Garden" with Carlita Price as organist. Pallbearers were Bud Whitmore, Clarence Swearingen, Dick Wroughton, Pat Moore, Bud Ferebee and Dutch Flower. Graveside Masonic Rites were given by the Nelson Masonic Lodge #77. Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery. The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, June 182, 1998; pg. 2
