Batch, of Atlanta, Kansas, will be present for the funeral services. ***************************************************** The Emporia Gazette, 15 Apr 1905, Saturday The Emporia lodge of Odd Fellows have hired the Second Regiment band of twenty-one pieces to play for the funeral of Jacob Jacob tomorrow. The members of the band will meet at the Mit-Way tomorrow morning at 7 o'clock and will be driven to Neosho Rapids in wagonettes. The band will meet the funeral procession at Neosho Rapids and will accompany the body to the cemetery. *************************************************** The Emporia Gazette, 15 Apr 1905, Saturday The funeral of Jacob Jacob tomorrow will probably be largely attended. Mr. Jacob was a member of both the A. O. U. W. No. 2 and the Odd Fellows. Both lodges will send a large delegation to the funeral tomorrow. Nearly every wagonette in town has been engaged to carry townspeople to the funeral. The Second Regiment band will probably play the funeral march. ***************************************************** The Emporia Gazette, 17 Apr 1905, Monday THE JACOB FUNERAL. The funeral of Jacob Jacob, held yesterday from the Methodist church at Neosho Rapids, was given the best attendance of any in years. The church was crowded with the friends and relatives of the dead man, and an even larger crowd was gathered in the church and school yards, unable to get inside, but waiting for the casket to be opened that they might view the remains and to pay their last tribute to the memory of a friends (sic) and neighbor by following in the long procession that wound over the hill to the cemetery. They body was taken from the house at 10 o'clock in the morning and was brought to the church. As the procession went into the church, the Second Regiment band of Emporia, played softly, "Abide With Me." The funeral sermon was delivered by the Rev. W. A. Sprague, who was formerly pastor of the Neosho Rapids church. He paid a tribute to the sterling qualities of the dead man, proven by the presence of such a large gathering of his former associates. Pursuant to a request of Mr. Jacob made some time before his death, Judge J. J. Buck of Emporia, delivered the funeral eulogy. Judge Buck gave one of the finest talks that has ever been delivered at a funeral in this county. He was a personal friend of the dead man, a member of the lodge to which he belonged, and was in a position to know his virtues and his faults, but was glad that his virtues far outnumbered his faults, that the faults had all been forgotten. The funeral procession started from the church and as the body was brought out the band started "Come Ye Disconsolate." The procession was nearly a mile in length. At the head of it was the band playing the "Dirge Dolore," and following were the members of the Workmen and the Odd Fellows lodges. The pall bearers, six in number, acted as an escort for the body to the cemetery. The services at the grave were brief but impressive. The funeral rites of the Odd Fellows lodge were administered by C. A. Bishop and Howard Lyon, both members of Mrs. Jacob's old lodge. The character of the crowd which gathered for the funeral services yesterday may well be taken to indicate the regard in which Mr. Jacob was held by his friends and business associates. Republicans and Democrats, rich and poor, the man from the farm and the man from the town, all vied with one another in paying the tribute of attendance. The funeral was largely attended by the people from Emporia where Mr. Jacob made many friends during his six years' term as county commissioner, and from Hartford and the other towns of the southeastern part of the county. Mr. Jacobs was a man of broad mind, and great common sense. He was at the front of every movement for the advancement of the county and of his neighbors. A man of quick perceptions and strong personality, he was a political as well as a business leader, and his influence was always exerted for the good of the many. The pallbearers were Robert Wilson, Robert Dishner, W. S. Andrews, Harvey Thomas, John George and C. S. Wooster. -------------------------
