Description	:	Jacob Peelen died at his home in Sioux Center near midnight Monday February twenty-fourth 1908. An attack of diabetes had caused him to fail very rapidly during the last few months. Deceased was born in Holland December tenth 1841 and came to this country and settled in Sioux county in 1884. He was one of the early settlers of Welcome township and was a very successful farmer--having acquired a goodly estate. Read More	Jacob Peelen died at his home in Sioux Center near midnight Monday February twenty-fourth 1908. An attack of diabetes had caused him to fail very rapidly during the last few months. Deceased was born in Holland December tenth 1841 and came to this country and settled in Sioux county in 1884. He was one of the early settlers of Welcome township and was a very successful farmer--having acquired a goodly estate. He was a consistent member of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center and was held in high esteem on account of his genial and cheerful disposition. Deceased was married to Metje Alofs in the Netherlands on June twenty-sixth 1869 and the two had lived together happily for nearly thirty-nine years. Nine children were born to their union of which two died young. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. James De Pree from the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center on Thursday and interment was made in the Sioux Center cemetery. The children are Arend and Gerrit and Herman and John and Mesdames Van Heukelom, Postma and Hoeven. The youngest son only in single and living at home. About nine years ago Mr. and Mrs. Peelen left them farm in Welcome township and have since that time been residents of Sioux Center. Our correspondent says: It very seldom falls to the lot of a man to be so generally respected. We do not know of a single person who did not consider deceased a warm friend. Mr. Peelen was always a very strong and healthy man and until this malady seized him had but very seldom needed anything in the line of medicine. He was however for many years a great sufferer with a trouble in his eyes-a very malignant trouble-which baffled all medical skill and all the means used-despite operations resorted to both here and in the Netherlands. He always bore this very painful affliction with great fortitude and died in the full assurance of a Christian faith.
