Read More	Death of Jacob Weiss - Newspaper May 21, 1938 Jacob Weiss, son of Johann and Katarina Weiss was born Aprii 27, 1864 in Watzanbern, Grosherzogtum Hessen, Germany, the youngest son of a family of six children. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran churcn in the land of his birth. At the age of twenty-two years he came to America and after a short stay in New York City he came to Nebraska. He resided in this state from that time till his death. In 1893 he engaged in farming at Fonelle Nebraska in Washington County. There in April 1894, he was married to Theresa Brinkmann. The family moved to Ohiowa, in March 1916. February 17, 1923, the wife and mother died. Mr. Weiss passed away Saturday, May 21, 1938, early in the morning. He reaced the age of 74 years and 24 days. He leaves to mourn three sons, William H. Weiss of Ohiowa, Fred L. Weiss of Ottawa, Ill., and Carl H. Brinkmann of Omaha, three grandsons, Manley, Paul and Harold Weiss of Ottawa, Ill., and several brothers and one sister residing in Germany. Father Weiss passing at 1:30 a.m., Saturday was peaceful coming while asleep. An old malady that had afflicted him for years had again agitated him in past weeks, the weather conditions being rather severe for asthma. With other complications it was realized his time was near, yet a feeling of sadness comes over the community when a long time citizen passes from it. The deceased in his late life had several very serious attacks of illness at times demanding care at hospitals. He at these times particularly stressed his readiness to go as there were days of loneliness following the passing of Mrs. Weiss, the loss of whom he keenly felt. His sons administered to him kindly, doing many things to gratity his wishes, yet he wanted to die. Such a character as his will be missed by many. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon, May 23 by Rev. W. F. V. Churchill at St. John's Lutheran Church at 2, the paster speaking from the text. "But I would not have you to be ignorant brethren, concerning them which are asleep that ye sorrow not even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. First Thesaninians 4:13, 14. The music was furnished by a quartet from the church choir, consisting of Mrs. W. F. V. Churchill, Mrs. R. Meyer, Misses Irma Philippi and Martha Folkerts. The songs were Beautiful Isle of Somewhere and Jesus Lover of My Soul. Miss Ruth Philippi was at the piano. The opening of the service was conducted in the German language, at which time an impressive solo was rendered. Wo Findet die Seele die Heinat die Ruh by Rev. William F. Most of Wayne. The concourse present and the many beautiful floral offerings spoke eloquently of the respect and esteem in which Mr Weiss was held. The Pallbearers were John F. Most, Fred Matties Sr., Will F. Domeier, Henry Fries, Ben Matthies and Gust Thomas. Taking charge of the many floral afferings were Cecil Most, Laverna Matthies, Burnetta Domerer and Laverne Bornschiegl. Interment was in the Ohiowa cemetery.
