Description	:	Jake W. Hepler, son of Lloyd G. and Bertha R. (Riggens (sic)) Hepler, was born April 4, 1912 in Lawrence. He passed away Saturday, April 25, 1998, at Good Samaritan Center in Nelson, Nebraska. He attended Lawrence Public Schools and went to Methodist Sunday School as a child. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing ball in Lawrence. June 18, 1935, Jake married Elizabeth Stichka in Mankato, Kansas. They farmed northwest of Nelson. In 1986 they moved to Lawrence. He attended Lawrence Public Schools and went to Methodist Sunday School as a child. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing ball in Lawrence. June 18, 1935, Jake married Elizabeth Stichka in Mankato, Kansas. They farmed northwest of Nelson. In 1986 they moved to Lawrence. Jake was not judgmental - if life gave him lemons he would make lemonade - he was always ready to help the down and out. Both he and his wife, Elizabeth, would be there first when there was a neighborhood harvest crew. They traveled when they could get away from the farm work. They visited relatives in South Dakota, California and New Mexico. He was proud of and enjoyed visits from his many nieces and nephews and loved little children. Jake counted among his friends the staff and residents of the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson where he lived for the past three years. Preceding him in death were his wife, Elizabeth, on December 26, 1987, two sisters and one brother. Survivors include two sisters, Neva Malpert of Doniphan, Nebraska, and Ruth Hansen of Superior, Nebraska. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 28, 1998, at 10:30 a.m., at Merten-Butler Mortuary Chapel in Blue Hill, Nebraska, with Rev. Baldeo Singh officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery west of Lawrence. Pallbearers were James Disney, Jim Williams, Mark Godding, Emil Stichka, Lee Clabaugh and Steven Alberts. Honorary pallbearers were Dale Alberts, Bob Ingels, Bill Hepler, David Stineman, Randy Stineman and Roger Stineman. The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, May 7, 1998; pg. 13
