Clothing Caught Fire from Match That Was Tossed Away. Bruno, Oct. 26 - Jacob Stava was fatally burned about 4:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon when his clothing caught on fire. He died from shock and burns at 2:30 o'clock Monday morning. Mr. Stava had gone about his daily chore of opening a gate some rods from his home to allow the cattle to come home. After opening the gate he lighted his pipe before starting back to the house and it is thought that in tossing away the match it fell in a pocket or was caught up in his clothing, starting the blaze. When he discovered himself on fire Mr. Stava rolled on the ground in an effort to extinguish it. His small grandson, Leonard Stava, noticed the smoke and called his father. The family rushed to the assistance of the burning man and put out the fire, but the burns were so extensive and so deep that Mr. Stava succumbed several hours later. The upper right half of his body and right arm were severely burned and there were lesser burns on his face and left side and arm. Mr. Stava was 69 years of age. Burno, Nov. 2 - Jacob Stava, highly respected pioneer citizen of Bruno locality, died at his home in Bruno, early Monday morning, Oct. 26, from shock and burns suffered when his clothing caught on fire several hours before. The funeral was held on Wednesday morning, Oct. 28, at 10:00 o'clock, from the home to the St. Anthony's church, Rev. Father Kvitek saying the Requiem Mass and conducting the services for the dead. Interment was in St. Anthony's cemetery. The pall-bearers were Thomas Rerucha, Sr., Thomas Rerucha, Jr., J. V. Markitan, F. A. Novacek, Thomas Pelan, Jr., and Joseph Kozicek. The members of St. Anthony's Catholic Workmen lodge, of which Mr. Stava was a member, and several members of other Catholic Workmen lodges, attended in a body as honorary pall-bearers. Jacob Stava was born in Biskupice, Moravia, on June 19,1862, the youngest son of Frank Stava and Marie (Spevak) Stava. He came to the United States with his parents in 1872, and from that time until his death he lived on the same farm, which adjoins Bruno on the northwest. In 1884, he married Miss Frances Pohl, and they were the parents of one daughter and two sons. In 1912, Mr. and Mrs. Stava retired from the active management of the farm and built a comfortable home for themselves on the outskirts of Bruno, where, with their invalid daughter, Miss Agnes, they had since resided. Mr. Stava was always an active and industrious man, ever aiding in the performance of some duty or task about the home place, a devout and faithful member of the Catholic church, a sincere friend and good neighbor. His tragic passing is mourned by the many who remember the kindliness, cheerfulness and patience of his character. Mr. Stava is survived by his wife, one daughter, Miss Agnes, two sons, Emil of Bruno and Adolph of Gurley, Nebr., five grand-children, one brother, J. F. Stava, and one sister, Mrs. Frances Mazanec of Dwight, to whom is extended the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community. J.
