Kent Funeral services for James A. Kent, 86, will be held Friday at 9 a.m. at St. Bonaventure Catholic church, with the Rev. Roch Hettinger officiating. Burial will be made in the Catholic cemetery here. Mr. Kent, a resident of Columbus more than 40 years, died about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at his home, 2109 Seventeenth street, following a short illness. The body will lie in state at the Gass funeral home from 11 a.m. Thursday till the hour of the services. Rosary will be prayed there at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Kent was born April 12, 1864, at Muskegon, Mich., the son of Sam and Mary Doyle Kent. While a small boy he came to Nebraska with his parents and he lived at Norfolk and Madison for many years before coming to Columbus in 1907. His marriage to Mary Halpin took place Oct. 29, 1891, in St. Patrick's church, Battle Creek. He worked as a Union Pacific carpenter for about 32 years before his retirement, and prior to that had been a farmer and cattle raiser. Mr. Kent was an honorary member of the Union Pacific Old Timbers. Survivors are: his widow; three daughters, Mrs. Gladys K. Wikstrom of Ogden, Utah, Mrs. Elsie Kiernan of Redding, Cal., and Mrs. Celia Madison of Omaha; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Sam Kent, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Kost, both of Norfolk. He was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen and Robert, and two daughters, JoAnn and Gladys. ------------ The Columbus Daily Telegram, January 13, 1951 KENT--Services Held - Funeral services were held Friday at 9 a.m. in St. Bonaventure Catholic church, for James A. Kent, 86, who died Tuesday morning at his home here. Burial was made in the Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers were: Fred Gerber, J.B. Tschudy, William Schwantje, Otto Merz, John Branigan and Michael Scharwith. Out-of-town relatives attending the funeral included: Mrs. Agnes Kost, Samuel Kent, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Kent, Mr. and Mrs. John Kent and son, Robert, Mr. and Mrs. James Kent, Mrs. Richard Miller, Mr. and Mrs. George Kent, all of Norfolk; Mrs. Delia Lauver and son, Donald of Battle Creek; Mr. and Mrs. Adam Alt of Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Jackson of Hoskins; Michael Halpin of Winside; Mrs. Gladys Wikstrom of Ogden, Utah; Mrs. Celia Madison and son, Kent, of Omaha.
