He was five foot ten inches and had a dark complexion. His occupation was Minister. MILITARY RECORDS: Enlisted May 11, 1898 at Lincoln, Nebraska. Assigned to 1st Regiment, Nebraska Infantry as a Chaplain. Mustered out of regiment on August 23, 1899 at San Francisco, California. Pension awarded on Certificate No. 1,106,038. He was the son of James and Mary (MacDonald) Mailley. He was five foot ten inches and had a dark complexion. His occupation was Minister. MILITARY RECORDS: Enlisted May 11, 1898 at Lincoln, Nebraska. Assigned to 1st Regiment, Nebraska Infantry as a Chaplain. Mustered out of regiment on August 23, 1899 at San Francisco, California. Pension awarded on Certificate No. 1,106,038. An interesting event in Mr. Mailley's life occurred in 1905 when he was hit by lightning. While at Wenatchee, Washington in October 1925, he gave this account of the event to the head of the Washington Veterans' Home: "Some years ago, I was struck by a bolt of lightning. I was then pastor of one of the leading churches of Colorado. The bolt struck me squarely on the crown of the head, burnt all the hair off of my head, burnt and tore my clothes to rags, and burnt me from head to foot, and, of course, left me a nervous wreck. It is one of the worse cases on record where the victim lived. I was paralyzed from the waist down, my limbs temporarily and my feet for a long time. It left an effect that is called temporary paralysis and I suffer greatly, especially during changes of weather. Many times I have been on the point of giving up, and when I sent in my aplication, I thought my work in this world was done." Mrs. Mailley died in 1931. In 1943, Mr. Mailley left instructions that he desired to be buried next to her in the Home cemetery and that no public funeral of any kind, civil or military, be held. He died aged 84 years on May 23, 1945 at Washington Veterans' Home in Retsil. He was survived by his daughter, Mrs. Margaret Belle Floch of Montana.
