AGED WOMAN SUCCUMBS TO AUTO INJURY -- Mrs. Alberta Mailley, 67, Passes Away at Shelton General Hospital Wednesday -- Death from injuries received in an automobile accident early Monday morning came shortly after midnight Tuesday for Mrs. Alberta Mailley, 67, wife of James Mailley of the old soldiers home at Retsil. The aged lady was rushed to Shelton General Hospital Monday morning and examination of her injuries gave her but slight chance for recovery. With her husband and two friends, Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Lizzie Dobson, all of Retsil, Mrs. Mailley was enroute to the W. C. T. U. convention at Vancouver, Wash. The crash occurred near the summer home of Billy Potts, former state treasurer, on Hood Canal about 9:30 Monday morning. The Mailley car overturned on the highway after skidding in loose gravel. Ed Dalby of the Seattle Post Intelligencer was one of the first at the scene of the wreck, enroute from the weekend at his canal home to Seattle. He aided the extraction of Mrs. Mailley from the wreckage and gave information concerning getting ambulance etc. None of the other aged occupants were injured in the accident. Mrs. Mailley's remains were moved from the hospital to Port Orchard, where burial will be made, it is understood. [published in Shelton-Mason County Journal, Thursday, October 29, 1931 front page. Headline: TWO DEAD IN AUTO CRASHES.] AUTO ACCIDENT CAUSES DEATH --AGED RETSIL HOME WOMAN DIES THIRTY HOURS AFTER ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY NEAR UNION -- Death came early Tuesday afternoon in a Shelton hospital to Mrs. Alberta Mailley of the Retsil Veterans' home, injured Monday when the car in which she and her husband and two friends were driving to Vancouver, Wash., slipped off the road near Twanoh State park, Monday. She was not thought at first to be seriously hurt, but her condition became worse, and at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon she succumbed to her inuries. The party was travelling to attend the convention of the W. C. T. U. at Vancouver, Wash. None of the other persons in the car were injured. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 30, at 2 p.m. at the home, with Rev. Walter Givens officiating. He will be assisted by the Bremerton Christian Church choir and by the Women's Relief society, Retsil. The dead woman is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Flock, Gold Creek, Mont.; two brothers, W. W. and W. H. Bissell, both of Nebraska, and her husband.
