Description	:	James "Jim" Author Cox, 85, of Helena, passed away Dec. 2, 2007, from natural causes. He was born Oct. 11, 1922, in Lot, Ky., one of 11 children, to Willis and Martha (Wilson) Cox. Jim is survived by his daughters, Kathy (Dave) Coey, Linda (Joe) Balcerzak, and Jennifer (Rich) Balcerzak; sons, James B. Cox and Gary (Nikki) Cox; a brother, Oscar Roy Cox; and a sister, Gladys Fulton; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was born Oct. 11, 1922, in Lot, Ky., one of 11 children, to Willis and Martha (Wilson) Cox. Jim is survived by his daughters, Kathy (Dave) Coey, Linda (Joe) Balcerzak, and Jennifer (Rich) Balcerzak; sons, James B. Cox and Gary (Nikki) Cox; a brother, Oscar Roy Cox; and a sister, Gladys Fulton; and numerous nephews and nieces. He had 11 grandchildren, Larissa, Steven, Michael, Casey, Chartara, Jovan, Todd, Melissa, Shane, Greg and Ryan. He had 12 great-grandchildren, Brent, Kirsten, Justin, Nicole, Angel, Jeff, Alex, Jacob, Daneha, Latrell, Taylee and Shayla. He moved with his family to Montana in 1940 in a two and a half-ton truck from Kentucky to north of Big Timber. He served in the Navy in World War II aboard the U.S.S. Sproston, DD7, as a sonar man 3rd class petty officer. He was involved in campaigns against the Japanese in Alaska, the South Pacific, the invasion of Ladle in the Philippines and off the northern tip of Japan. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1945, he married Beatrice Braziel in Reno, Nev. Having raised five children, Jim and Bea were divorced in 1970. Jim married Lorna Westover in 1974. Lorna preceded him in death in 2006. Prior to her death, they enjoyed traveling extensively throughout North America. Jim was a past commander in the Veterans of Foreign Wars in East Helena and a third degree Master Mason with the Ottawa #51 Lodge A.F.&A.M. in Marysville. Memorial services will be held at the Hagler-Anderson Mortuary at 2 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 6, followed with military graveside honors from the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison with Lewis and Clark Veterans Council officiating.
