Description	:	James August Altman was born in Ohio on April 29, 1886, to Ruth (Salt) Altman (1851–1917). and Theodore F. Altman (1844-1908), who served during the Civil War in Company "H" of the 59th Regiment of Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Of Ruth's and Theodore's seven children, James August Altman was the fifth to be born. During the year 1905, James August Altman wed Susie Jane Vanliew (Altman, 1886–1968), daughter of Cornelius M. James August Altman and Susie Jane (Vanliew) Altman resided in Hamilton, seat of Butler County, Ohio, throughout their lives and are not known to have raised any children. James August Altman died at the age of forty-eight in Hamilton on August 7, 1934, and was interred there at Greenwood Cemetery Section U, Lot 142, Grave 04.
