He married Holice Glendine (Reams) Sanders on 16 Jan 1932 at Mountain Lake Park, Garrett County, Maryland. He was also preceded in death by his wife of seventy-one years in 2003, and one granddaughter. He owned and operated his own dairy farm until 1958. He worked as a mechanic for the Savage Garage, Sanders & Hershman Garage, and Sharps Chevrolet, all of Oakland. He was considered to be an excellent mechanic. I remember a story told by Walter C. Newman, who owned a 1946 Ford that would just stop running at times. Nobody could figure out what was causing the problem, until he took it to Jim Sanders, who worked at Sanders & Hershman at the time. Jim corrected the problem in a short amount of time. The problem; an intermit ignition switch. He also owned and operated a school bus for forty-two years for the Garrett County Board of Education. He is survived by one daughter, one son, eight grandchildren, and seveteen great-grandchildren.
