Description	:	James B. Sneath James was born December 25, 1837 died July 12, 1917 as a boy of sixteen years he left his native land of Liverpool, England and sailed with his parents for America, on February 11, 1853 landed at the port on New Orleans, La. On April 1, of the same year, with a friend who owned a farm near Salem, Iowa, he came by steamboat up the Mississippi River to Keokuk an overland to Salem, where he found employment, and later owned a farm. On April 1, of the same year, with a friend who owned a farm near Salem, Iowa, he came by steamboat up the Mississippi River to Keokuk an overland to Salem, where he found employment, and later owned a farm. He enlisted in Company C 25th Regiment Iowa Voluntary, and served as a fifer of his Regiment three years. He was the father of thirteen children, two died in early infancy, and a daughter Mrs Geneve Toops, died March 21, 1916. His sons Henry of Colorado, James of Oklahoma, and John of Rock Island, Illinois. His daughters are Mrs. Anna Cotton of Hillsboro, Iowa, Mrs. Susan Leeper of Nobal, Mrs. Mary Young of Hillsboro, Iowa, Mrs, Nellie Garmoe of Salem, Iowa, Mrs. Lovina Runyon of Bentonsport, Iowa, Mrs. Elizabeth Edwards of Yarmouth, Mrs. Belle Coolidge of Des Moines. At one o'clock Sunday afternoon, July 15, a brief service was held at the home, then by auto the family and friends followed to Hillsboro, Iowa, where funeral sermon was preached in the Baptist Church by Elder James McKiernan of Farmington, assisted by the church Pastor Reverend G. W. Fogg. Interment was in Hillsboro Cemetery. His band comrades acted as pallbearers an GAR Post conducted their impressive service for the dead and taps were sounded by the bugler.
