James Buchanan Hardesty, 501 East, laborer, died this morning at 11:30 o'clock at his home. He had been sick two days. James Hardesty was born March 15, 1857, in Bloomfield, Ind. He was the son of the late Jane and Jeffrey Hardesty. He went to Osage City 57 years ago and came to Emporia about 1912. Mr. Hardesty was married to Marguerite Jane Shrout January 22, 1878, in Bloomfield, Ind. He was a member of the Quaker church. Mr. Hardesty is survived by his widow; five daughters, Mrs. Mary C. Hurd, Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. Della Holden, Waverly; Mrs. May Summers, Luling, Texas; Mrs. Harry Comfort, Argentine, and Jane Lang, of the home; and 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One son died in 1923. Funeral arrangements have not been made. ******************** The Emporia Gazette, 30 Nov 1935, Sunday HARDESTY FUNERAL SUNDAY. Funeral services for James B. Hardesty, who died Friday, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home, 501 East. Rev. Mr. A. J. Pauler, former pastor of the Emporia Church of God, will conduct the services. Interment will be in Maplewood cemetery. The casket will be open at the home, 501 East, this evening and Sunday. ******************** The Emporia Gazette, 02 Dec 1935, Monday FUNERAL OF J. B. HARDESTY. Funeral services for James Buchanan Hardesty, who died Friday morning, were held Sunday afternoon at the home at 501 East. Rev. A. J. Pauler, former pastor of the Church of God of Emporia, conducted the services. Miss Vesta Windsor and Eldon Windsor sang, accompanied by Miss Hazel Windsor. Pallbearers were W. B. Harvey, Schuyler Searcy, S. M. Read, W. J. Pomeroy, M. C. Smith and J. Perry. Burial was in Maplewood cemetery. Out-of-town friends and relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Grady and Mr. and Mrs. Jay King, of Chanute; Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Hardesty, of Erie; Raymond Hardesty, of St. Paul; Frank Blasche, Mrs. Thomas Blasche and son, Thomas; Thomas Verlin, Mrs. Heuitt and daughter, Vivian; Mrs. Carrie Smith, Miss Mary Smith, Miss Mary Agnes Smith, Edward Smith and Miss Hazel Buchanan, all of Kansas City; Mr. and Mrs. William Patch, of Olpe. ******************** Same edition: CARD OF THANKS WE wish to thank our many friends and neighbors for their kindness through our bereavement.
