He was the son of the late Karr Lee Kivett and Flossie McMasters Kivett, and also was preceded in death by sister, Pauline Kivett Brown. Surviving are his wife, daughter, two sons, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one sister. James was a member of the 1939 graduating class of Liberty High School. He was a lifelong member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church, where he was the choir director for 42 years and was presented with a lifetime Deacon award. Being the only son in his family, he was unable to join the armed forces at the time, but his desire to help in the WWII effort led him to Glen L. Martin where he helped build B-17 Bombers. James was a true patriot. In the 1950's he played Bluegrass music with Green Valley Boys. He worked for many years at Liberty Hosiery Mill until its closing and then he went to work at Kelwood in Siler City until retiring. He came out of retirement to work at Ramtex as a nighttime security guard until age 86. James enjoyed farming on his family farm where he raised tobacco, corn, grain, and pigs. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who touched many lives through the years. He will be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Kivett will lie in repose on Saturday, 3:00 p.m. -- 5:00 p.m. at Loflin Funeral Home in Liberty, North Carolina. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. at Sandy Creek Baptist Church; officiated by Rev. Travis Brock and Rev. Dr. Carl Garner. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. -- 4:00 p.m. at the church. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sandy Creek Baptist Church, Building Fund, Liberty, North Carolina.
