Hoffman, 63, rural Walker, died suddenly Thursday, December 13, 1990, of an apparent heart attack. Born April 30, 1927, in Urbana, he was the son of Charles R. and Vena Casner Hoffman. He married Margaret Harper in Vinton June 10, 1951. A lifelong Walker farmer, Mr. Hoffman was an elder and member fo the Prairie Creek Christian Church; past master of the Brandon Masonic Lodge, now affiliated with the Independence Masonic Lodge; El Kahir Shrine, Cedar Rapids; a member of the N.E.O.W.A. Farm Service Board of Directors; Buchanan Board of Review; the director of the Spencer's Grove Cemetery. He attended the Urbana school and graduated from the Independence High School. He attended the University of Wyoming for three years. Mr. Hoffman served in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, rural Walker, his mother, Vena Hoffman, Independence; two sons, Charles H. and his fiancée, Peg Walker, rural Brandon; James D. "Chip" and his wife, Jackie, Walker; four daughters, Jean (Mrs. Carl) Johnson, San Francisco; Margaret "Peg" (Mrs. Dennis) Danford, Urbandale; Elizabeth (Mrs. John) Lund, Robins; Mary Hoffman, Cedar Rapids; one sister, Jean Hoffman, Phoenix, AZ; one brother, Vernon and his wife Jane, Independence; seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother Charles. Funeral services will be Sunday, December 16, at 1:30 pm at the Prairie Creek Christian Church, with Dr. Robert D. Butler, interim pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be a the Spencer's Grove Cemetery, rural Walker. Friends may call Saturday, December 15, at Campbell Russell Funeral Home, Vinton, from 2 to 8 pm and at the church Sunday from noon until the service. A memorial fund has been established.
