Emery Rosecrans, 66 years of age, passed away suddenly at his home in Elwood last Thursday morning, December 20th, at six o'clock. Mr. Rosecrans has been in very poor health since last June although at times he apparently was getting better. Mr. Rosecrans has been a resident of this vicinity for the past twenty-five or twenty-six years making his home in Elwood for the past few years. Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon being in charge of B. B. Baird, pastor of the Christian church. Interment was made in the Elwood cemetery. James Emery Rosecrans was born on February 12, 1857, at Victor, Iowa. About 1885, he moved to the state of Nebraska, coming to this immediate vicinity in the year 1887. In 1895 he went to Mississippi. While there, in 1896, at Aberdeen, he was married to Miss Lydia Nisley. Together they came back to this community in 1897 where they have since resided. To this union were born two daughters, Leila Naomi and Jane Alberta. Mr. Rosecrans was taken sick last June and was in poor health since that time until the day of his death He leaves to mourn a devoted wife, two daughters, one sister, Mrs. M. E. Cox, and one brother, W. H. Rosecrans. He was a great lover of the song "The Old Rugged Cross." In the beautiful words of this song we believe he was given his cross for a crown. He left this world with the word of God on his lips. He loved the23rd and 27th Psalms, often quoting the closing words of the latter. "Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and He will strengthen thy heart. Wait I say on the Lord."
