(Verified by Tony & Cindy Lloyd) LOGHRY, JAMES F.—Died at the family residence in Geneva, Neb., at 11:40 a.m. Monday, September 10, 1906, James F. Loghry, aged 79 years, 7 months and 9 days. James F. Loghry was born in Howard City, N.Y., on February 1, 1827. When he was eight years of age, his parents removed to Oberlin, O. When he was eighteen years old, he moved again with his parents to Burrows, Branch county, Mich., where he lived until 1857. He moved from Michigan to Steuben county, Indiana, and resided there until 1870. In the fall of that year he came to Fillmore county, Nebraska, and took a homestead in Geneva township two miles north of where Geneva now stands. In 1850 he was married to Lucy A. Cutler of Gilead, Mich., who survives him. There were born to them six children, four of whom are living: Mrs. A. Huston, Mrs. William H. Garrett, Leroy and Jay Loghry, all of whom reside in Fillmore county. Mr. Loghry is also survived by three brothers, A. Loghry of Geneva, Charles Loghry of Steuben, Ind., and Amos Loghry of Kankakee county, Illinois, and two sisters, Sarah Williams of Guthrie county, Iowa, and Adeline Calkins of Chase county, Nebraska. Mr. Loghry answered the call of his country to defend the union in 1865, by joining Company K, One Hundred and Fifty-second regiment, Indiana. This was a volunteer regiment, mustered into service March 16, 1865. He served until August 30, 1865, when he was discharged at Charleston, W.V. The funeral services were conducted at the family home at 10 o’clock Wednesday by Rev. Thomas Griffiths, and were in charge of the old soldiers. All of the children were present at the funeral, except Mrs. Garrett, who is visiting in the east. The interment was in the Geneva cemetery. Mr. Loghry, or “Uncle Jimmie Loghry” as he was familiarly known, was highly respected and leaves many friends who extend their sympathy to the surviving relatives. The relatives of the deceased desire to express their deep appreciation of the many kindnesses shown by neighbors and old friends during Mr. Loghry’s illness. They desire to especially thank the members of the Relief Corps and the G.A.R. for their many ministrations. (Source: The Nebraska Signal September 1906)
