FERRIER: At the ripe age of over 101 years James Gilbert Ferrier entered into rest January 17, 1964, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Stewart Gardner, Grand Valley district, where he had resided for the past 25 years. Born on the sixth line of West Garafraxa Township on August 24th, 1862, "Jimmie," as he wished to be called was the son of Alexander Ferrier and Sarah Markle. He was one of a family of 11, three of whom survive him: Mrs. Agnes Valentine and Mrs. Addie Valentine, both of Pennant, Saskatchewan, and a brother, Norman, Guelph. At the age of 19 years he moved with his parents and family to Melancthon Township, where they cleared 300 acres and built homes on each of the three farms. On May 4, 1892, he married Jane Ann Valentine, who predeceased him on April 4, 1932. Surviving are two sons and one daughter: Elwood of Hamilton; Orland of Guelph, and Mrs. Stewart Gardner (Grace) of Grand Valley. One daughter, Violet, predeceased him at the age of 10 years. There are eight grandchildren, 17 great-grand-children and one great-great-grandchild. Twenty-five years ago he sold his farm and came to live with his daughter in East Luther Township.
