Word of the passing of this highly esteemed resident was received with general regret in the district. Mrs. Bolen was born at Belwood, near Fergus, on June 2, 1858, her maiden name being Matilda Ferrier. She had resided in Corbetton for half a century. Her husband, the late Thomas Bolen, conducted the general store in Corbetton until his passing. The business was carried on by Alex. and Delia Bolen for many years until they sold out in recent years to Urquhart McCosh. Mrs. Bolen was a long-time member of Corbetton Church, formerly the Methodist and later of the United. For reasons of health she had been unable to attend service for many years. However, she was of a deeply religious nature and tuned in every Sunday for many years to the Church of the Air, conducted by Rev. James Finlay, of Cariton Street United Church, Toronto. She was a life member of Corbetton Women's Missionary Society. Mrs. Bolen's intellect was exceptionally clear up till the last and she was able to be out of bed for a short time each day. She had been lovingly cared for by members of the family and possessed an affectionate and cheerful Christian disposition. On reaching the century mark two years ago, Mrs. Bolen received congratulatory messages from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth , Prime Minister Diefenbaker, and telegrams, gifts and cards from numerous other well-wishers. Mrs. Bolen is survived by one son and three daughters: Alex., Delia and Mrs. Bert Henderson (Mac), all of Corbetton, and Mrs. Homer Besley (Olive) of Shelburne. A son, Roy, and two daughters, Mrs. David MeCosh (Sarah) and Mrs. Maude Ferguson predeceased her. She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters: James Ferrier, Keldon district, who will be 98 years old on August 23rd; Norman, Guelph, Ontario; Mrs. Charles Valentine and Mrs. George Valentine, of Pennant, Saskatchewan. Mrs. Bolen's descendants number 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren. The body rested in the McMillan Funeral Home, Dundalk, where a profusion of beautiful flowers and several Memorial Gideon Bibles bore silent tribute of love, sorrow, sympathy and respect. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, July 6, by Mr. W. J. Stewart, minister of Corbetton United Church, who had brought many comforting messages to Mrs. Bolen in her home while she was in failing health. Mr. Stewart read the 90th Psalm, a favorite of Mrs. Allen, and based his remarks on passages from it. He also read her favorite hymn, "Abide With Me". Pall-bearers were the following grandsons: Stan McCosh, Frank Bolen, Bolen Henderson, Eldon Henderson, Burton Besley and William Besley. Flower-bearers were: Urquhant McCosh, Ernie Stinson, Ross Lyon, Alton Oldfield, Leonard Keast, Tracey Melenson, Gordon Acheson, Wilbert Ferrier, Horace Ruff, Douglas Wake and Bill Brown. Besides a wide circle of relatives and friends from this district, the funeral was attended by friends from Toronto, Owen Sound, Clarksburg, Conn, Hamilton and other places. Interment was made in Shelburne Cemetery. - Dundalk Herald.
