Mr. Colton is survived by four children: Mrs. Ira Clark and Victor Colton, both of Delphos, Kansas; and Mildred Colton and Mrs. Ethel Kibler of Puyallup, Wash. The body lay in state at the Harley Funeral Home until the hour of services, which are being held this afternoon at the Presbyterian Church. A complete obituary will appear next week. Mr. Colton kept a record of the weather for us, registering the high and low temperatures of each day, the amount of rainfall, etc., which was printed each month. October 21, 1937 James Henry Colton, age 74 years, one month, and 24 days, died at the Concordia Hospital, Tuesday, Oct. 12th, 1937. He was born in Fort Wayne, Ind., August 14, 1863. At the age of three years, he came to Blairtown, Iowa with his parents, and lived there 17 years. In 1884, the family moved to Delphos, Kansas, settling in the Bethel neighborhood. He was the oldest son of Henry and Esther Colton. He was united in marriage to Lydia Bates, of Delphos, Kansas, Feb. 22, 1899. To this union four children were born: Neva Clark and Victor Colton, of Delphos, Kansas; Mrs. Ethel Kibler and Miss Mildred Colton, of Puyallup, Washington. He leaves besides his children, four sisters and four brothers: Ed and Lester Colton, Adelia Bates, and Lulu Grinage, of Glasco; Eva Mantz of Norton, Kansas; George Colton of Los Angeles, Lawrence Colton of Long Beach, Calif.; and Nell Throckmorton of Delphos, with whom he had made his home the last 12 years of his life. Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death: Cynthis Holbert, Laura, a twin of Lawrence, and Leonard, twin of Lulu, who died in Iowa. He also leaves 14 grandchildren. He bore his years of suffering patiently, always endeavoring to cheer others, who were unfortunate, along the way. He loved to read items of interest to shut-ins, and tried to keep busy up to the limitations of his physical endurance. He loved the Men's Bible Class, and rarely missed a meeting. One of the happy moments of his last illness was when he received a beautiful bouquet from this class. He was very appreciative of any little kindness shown him. Besides his relatives, he leaves many friends who will hold his memory dear. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. McClellan at the Presbyterian Church, on Tuesday afternoon of last week, members of his class acting as pallbearers. He was laid to rest in the Bethel Cemetery.
