Description	:	James Henry Gourlay was born at Hartford, Washington county, New York, July 18th, 1854; died March 4th, 1923; age 69 years, 7 months and 16 days. He grew to manhood in his native state, coming to Nelson, eNbraska (sic), in 1880. He was united in marriage to Miss Margaret E. Carlon on May 26, 1882. To this union were born five children: Ralph Gourlay of Wymore; Mrs. Ray King, Superior; Carl Gourlay of Nelson; Willis Gourlay of Pasadena, Calif.; and little Loraine dying at the age of one and a half years. To this union were born five children: Ralph Gourlay of Wymore; Mrs. Ray King, Superior; Carl Gourlay of Nelson; Willis Gourlay of Pasadena, Calif.; and little Loraine dying at the age of one and a half years. Also three grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Gourlay with their family lived in eNlson (sic) until July 1st, 1908, then moving to Superior, where they have since resided, and where he passed away. Mr. Gourlay united with the First Presbyterian church of Nelson in the year 1900. His death is the first break in a family of six brothers and sisters. Those surviving him, are: R.M. Gourlay, Seattle, Wash.; Frank Gourlay, Sayre, Penn.; George Gourlay, Troy, N.Y.; Mrs. Carrie Warren, San Diego, Calif.; and rMs. (sic) Grace G. Nelson, Superior, Nebr. These with many other relatives ad (sic) a host of friends are left to mourn his departure. He was a kind and loving father, very happy in his home and a great lover of flowers and his garden. He shall be missed in his home, but the God of Heaven shall truly be the "judge of the widow and father of the orphan." He shall be missed from among his many friends kind and considerate of other, he had a large circle of friends and kept them. "To live in hearts left behind is not to die." His faith in God was steadfast and sure until the last when god called and he answered. The funeral was held from the home in Superior this afternoon, the Rev. Stephen A. Jones of the Nelson Presbyterian church, officiating. Interment was made in Nelson cemetery (sic). The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, March 6, 1924; pg. 4
