McKown, 66 died Wednesday, June 27 at his home in rural Onaka. He was born May 30, 1913 at Boswell Mills (sic), Knox County, NE, the son of Merle and Agnes McKown. The family moved to Miller in 1919. He married Anna May Winsell on October 24, 1939 at Sundance, WY. They lived in Miller for a short time. He worked for Clayton and Ted Jennings in southern Hyde County for many years and continued on the ranch when Paul Berry took it over. The past 14 years he worked as foreman for Dr. Martin Nold, Gettysburg at Onaka. He is survived by his wife; four sons, William E. Redding, CA, James H., Jr., USAA, Germany, John J., Hoven and Kenneth C. Eugene, OR; one daughter, Mrs. William (Majorie) Speirs, Anthon, IA; 13 grandchildren, two brothers, Merle, Jr., state of Washington and Raymond, Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Mrs. Ada Freeman, Enumclaw, WA and Mrs. Magne (Marie) Anderson, Seattle. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and infant sister. Funeral services were held Monday, July 2 at the First Presbyterian Church in Miller with the Rev. James Smucker officiating. Burial was in the GAR Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Willie Yost, Terry Krick, James Krick, Jr., Jerry Nold, Roelan Hall and Charles Hargens. Honorary pallbearers were James Krick, Sr., Clayton Jennings, Ted Jennings, Paul Robinson, Lowell Blakslee, Don Woodford, Carl Hagenlock, Martin Trefz, Dr. Martin Nold and Henry Speirs.
