Description	:	James Humphrey departed this life March 1st, 1901, and was buried in the Americus cemetery, March 3rd, 1901. The subject of this sketch was born in the state of New York on Oct. 15, 1816, and was, at the time of his death, 84 years, 4 months and 16 days old. The subject of this sketch was born in the state of New York on Oct. 15, 1816, and was, at the time of his death, 84 years, 4 months and 16 days old. When five years of age he moved with his parents to Penn., and was married at Pittsburg in 1845* to Mary J. Stopher. To this union, children were born, seven of whom are still living. He and his wife lived awhile in Virginia, then moved to Iowa, and came to Kansas in 1860, and has been a resident of Americus and vicinity ever since. In early boyhood he associated with the Covenanter church, and has been a member of the U.P. church ever since coming to Kansas. His wife preceded him two years last January. The immediate cause of his death was pneumonia, from which, at his extreme age, he was unable to recover. The funeral services were held at U.P. church last Sunday and were conducted by Rev. Wilson, pastor of that congregation, and a large concourse of friends followed his remains to their last place in Americus cemetery. Mr. Humphrey was one of the staunch believers in the doctrines of the Bible and was conscientious in hi convictions of right and wrong. His life was a noble example of Christian fortitude and reliance upon the master, well worthy of emulation by the present generation. He passed to a bright reward in the great beyond. *Mary's obituary states that they were married in 1847. - The Americus Greeting, March 7, 1901 His children were: David M.
