C, 118th Indiana Infantry received an invalid's pension in 1891 that was filed from Kansas. B. L. Kingsbury, the Coffey County attorney, was the representative. Irvin was listed as age 31. Sue E. was age 32, born in Pennsylvania. Alberta, 8; Horace, 6; & Lolita, 5; were born in Indiana. Grace, age 3, was born in Kansas. John Jones, age 61, a stone mason born in Ohio, was also listed with them. The 1880 census adds Wallace, age 3. The 1900 census shows Irvin & wife "Ann" with Eugenie, age 17, and Charles, age 15, both born in Kansas. James I. Jones is listed in this cemetery in a 1962 survey of veterans buried in Coffey County. Other family members are buried here, also. --------------------- The following is a portion of his published obituary. James Irvin Jones was born September 15, 1843 in Miami County, Ohio, and departed this earth at 8 a.m. August 31, 1917. He came to Coffey County in 1870 and has resided here since. He served in the Civil War and was a member of Company C, 118th Indiana Infantry. He was a son of John and Zelinda L. Jones of Wabash, Indiana. Mr Jones is survived by five children: Horace G. Jones of Towanda, Kansas; Mrs. S. S. Seyffer of LeRoy, Kansas; Wallace Jones of Burlington, Kansas, Mrs. Eugenia L. Sanford and Charles O. Jones, both of Kansas City. Two sisters and one brother also survive: Mrs. Thomas Beam of Burlington, Mrs. Osmer E. Hill of Tulsa, Okla., and I. C. Jones of Wichita. Mr Jones was preceded in death by his wife, Susan E. Jones and two daughters, Alberta and Loleta Jones.
