Mathias, April 1, 1946-May 2, 2011, James "Jim" Ivan Mathias, 65, formerly of 1084 Monticello Road, Rochester, passed away in Florida where he enjoyed his first winter as a snowbird. He was born in Rochester, on April 1, 1946, to Floyd "Jim" and Ethel (Moon) Mathias. Jim was a proud member of the Rochester High School Class of 1964 and was a lifetime Fulton County resident. As a heavy equipment operator for 30 years, he worked for McMahon-O'Connor Construction Co., which later became E&B Paving, both of Rochester. He was a loyal and devoted member of The Old Cross Roads Baptist Church of Gilead and the Union of Operating Engineers Local 150. A favorite way to relax was listening to gospel music, and he often shared his favorite CDs with family and friends. His love and sense of adventure for the underwater scene, was satisfied with many scuba dives at a variety of locales. Jim was also an instructor of scuba diving. Jim is lovingly remembered by two aunts, Agatha Marsh, Rochester, and Thelma Frettinger, Rochester; three uncles, Charles Moon, Mishawaka, William Moon and wife Marilyn, Rochester, and Donald Moon and wife Emma, Bradenton, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends also survive He was preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of the life of Mr. James Mathias is at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with the Rev. Thad Stewart officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Jim will be laid to eternally rest on his family's plot in Rochester's IOOF Cemetery. Preferred memorials may be made to the Old Cross Roads Baptist Church, Gilead. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
