Niday, aged 76, civil war veteran and pioneer resident of this community, died Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sam McVey, in Clay township. Funeral services were held at 11 o'clock Sunday at the home, conducted by Rev. Orr Campbell. Interment was made at Kirby cemetery. The following obituary was furnished by the family; James L Niday was born in Ohio June 30, 1842, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sam McVey, December 19, 1918, aged 76 years, 5 months, and 19 days. He was the son of Henry and Margaret Niday. He was married to Jane Wilham January 30, 1873. She preceeded him in death, the 29th day of July, 1881. To this union were born five children, Mrs. Ben McVey of Havilan, Kan., Mrs. Sam McVey and Mrs. M.R. Place of near Humeston, Iowa, and two dying in infancy. He was one of ten children, there boys and seven girls. Three sisters survive him, Mrs. Robert Price of Curtis, Nebr., Mrs. George Harbord of Clarinda, Iowa, Mrs. Casana McCune, Drexel, Mo. He enlisted August 15, 1862, in Co. E 34th Iowa Infantry, and was discharged August 16, 1865. He served the last three years of the way.
