Born May 3, 1928, in Deer Park, he was the son of the late Gilmore and Linna (Waters) DeWitt. Mr. Dewitt was a retired concrete foreman for the W.P. Donaldson and Sons Co., Hyattsville. DeWitt Sr., 69, of White Church-Steyer Road, Oakland, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at his home. Born May 3, 1928, in Deer Park, he was the son of the late Gilmore and Linna (Waters) DeWitt. Mr. Dewitt was a retired concrete foreman for the W.P. Donaldson and Sons Co., Hyattsville. He was a member of the Lakeside Assembly of God Church and a former member of the Colesville Lions Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Surviving are his wife, Ruby M. (Otto) DeWitt; two sons, James M. DeWitt Jr., Bowie, and Randall E. DeWitt Sr., Hughesville; six sisters, Martha Peabody, Princeton, N.J., Irene Gibson, Silver Spring, Anna Mae Cannon, Deer Park, Joanne Cupp, Martinsburg, W.Va., Dixie Lee Wardrop and Linnie Krisman, both of Frederick; one brother, Elwood DeWitt, Interlachen, Fla.; and four grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the Lakeside Assembly of God Church on Tuesday, May 7, 1998, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Shank officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Deer Park Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the various veterans organizations in southern Garrett County. The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Hospice of Garrett County, P.O. Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.
