Description	:	James Maguire was born in Vaughan, Ontario. He was the son of Mary Jane Jermyn (1804-1884) and Charles Maguire (1799-1873) who immigrated to Canada from Monaghan, Ireland. McMehen (1843- 1926), Martha m. Ross (1844-1890), Isaac (1848-unknown), Susanna m. Pratt (1848-1926) and Essie m. Abbott (1850-1910). The family lived in Dufferin County, Ontario where James' father Charles held church services in their home at Maguire's Corners (near present day Mono, Ontario) until a log building was built as a Weslyan Methodist church. A more permanent church was built in 1870 (Relessey Church in Mono, Ontario). In 1865, James married Margaret Dunlop (1847-1907) and the couple had two children. Their daughter, Mary Jane was born in 1866 but died at the age of 1 year and 7 months in September 1867. Their son Charles (1867-1930) was born in November 1867, several months after the death of his sister. On September 4, 1868, James died at the age of 28. The cause of his untimely death is unknown. His widow, Margaret went on to marry James Harrison of Amaranth, Ontario (son of Robert Harrison and Mary Clark) in 1872. James Maguire is buried at the Relessey Church Cemetery in Mono, Ontario in the same churchyard where his father conducted services years before. He is buried with his infant daughter Mary Jane. His parents moved to Biddulph, Ontario. James' gravestone indicates that he died at the age of 28 years and 2 months in September 1868. This would make his date of birth June or July 1840. However his brother Hugh Maguire was born in December 1840 (as indicated on his gravestone). And so it is possible that James' YOB is in error.** Family Search ID: LYYJ-JXD
