Description	:	Margaret W. Dunlop was born in 1847 in Ayrshire, Scotland. She immigrated to the USA with her family when she was a child. It is unclear the precise date of immigration, however, a 1901 Canada Census record indicates 1851 as the year of emigration from Scotland. The Dunlop family appears in the 1855 Massachusetts State Census as living in Topsfield, Essex, MA having recently moved from the town of Danvers, MA. Margaret's father John's occupation on the census is listed as a shoemaker. Margaret was the sixth of seven children born to John Dunlop (1811- 1880) and Margaret Wilson Gibson (1809-1867) both from Ayrshire, Scotland. In the summer of 1857, they moved north to Amaranth, Ontario where they joined Margaret's uncle William Gibson (Margaret Wilson Gibson's brother) and cousin James Rintoul (son of Annabella Wilson Gibson). Margaret's first husband was James Maguire (1841- 1868), son of Charles Maguire (1799-1873) and Mary Jane Jermyn (1804-1884). Margaret and James were married on 22 February 1865. Their first child, Mary Jane (1866-1867) died at the age of 1yr. 7 mos. Their second child was Charles M A Maguire (1867-1930). James died at the age of 28 yrs and is buried at the Relessey Cemetery in Mono, ON with their infant daughter Mary Jane (note that James' father Charles was the founder of this church). Margaret is listed as 'widowed' in the 1871 Ontario census. She and her 3-year-old son, Charles, lived with her father and her elder sister Agnes at the farm in Amaranth. Margaret's second marriage was to James Harrison (1845-1934) on 8 April 1872 in Amaranth, ON. The couple had eight (8) children: John Dunlop (1873-1936), William (1874-1960), Robert (1877-1959), Thomas James (1879-1929), Marvin Edward (1881-1945), Jane Agnes (1886-1887), Adeline (Craw) (1888-1920) and Margaret Janet (Sime) (1891-1962). The family's farm was located at Lot 25- Concession 3 in Amaranth county. Margaret passed away on December 29, 1907 in her 60th year (the cause of death is listed as a kidney condition). Margaret's elder sister Agnes (Kinsley) and younger sister Annie Bell (Ferguson) are also buried in the Shelburne Cemetery. Her elder sister Jeanie (Currie) and her mother, Margaret Wilson Gibson Dunlop (1809-1867) are buried in the Burns Cemetery in nearby Mono, Ontario. Margaret's brother John (1838-1863) is buried in the Crombie's Cemetery. (Note: Margaret's brother James Dunlop died as a prisoner of war in the American Civil War in 1864 at the age of 22).
