Jumper was baptized at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, Nebraska and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Primrose, Nebraska. He attended the Enfield Greeley County District #13; Timber Creek, Boone County District # 28; and St. Anthony's Grade School. Jim graduated from Cedar Rapids (NE.) High School in 1969. Following high school, he worked for Douthit Construction as a backhoe operator and installing telephone cable. In October 1970, while working in Lincoln, he sustained injuries in a construction accident that caused a Traumatic Brain Injury. Dr. Louis J. Goegela, Sr was his neurosurgeon and he was well-known as the "Father of Neurosurgery." In 1972, Jim worked for W.W. Matheny Co. in Omaha, Nebraska as an equipment operator. He moved back to the Cedar Rapids area and in the late 1970's and early 1980's, Jumper owned and operated a gravel trucking business using the slogan "Call Jumper - He'll dumper." He also operated the bar Jumpin' Jim's Alehouse, Primrose, Nebraska. In 1989, Jumper started working for Central Sand & Gravel, Columbus, Nebraska until suffering a stroke in June 2007. Jumper loved Elvis, hunting pheasants, classic Chevy cars, old songs and old TV trivia, arm wrestling, drinking PBR, belching and flipping lighted cigarettes. He also would cruise through Cedar Rapids with his backhoe, looking for driveways to clear after a snowstorm. Jumper is preceded in death by: father, Francis Braum in 2009; brother, Joesph Brian Braun in 2007 and nephew, Matthew James Dresch in 1987. A Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2014 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Cedar Rapids, Nebraska with Msgr. Ralph Steffensmeier as officiator. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
