In his early youth he united with the Christian Church at Olean, Mo., where he served faithfully in every department of the church and Sunday School. (maiden name unknown), about 1902. --------------------------- The Eldon Advertiser, February 1931 James Monroe Gilleland was born April 21, 1866, near Olean, Mo., and departed this life February 22, 1931, at the age of 64 years, 10 months and 1 day. In his early youth he united with the Christian Church at Olean, Mo., where he served faithfully in every department of the church and Sunday School. On September 19, 1901, he was united in marriage with Jennie Miller who survives him. To this union five children were born, two sons and three daughters, all of whom are living. They are: Paul S. Gilleland, St. Louis, Mo.; Ruth Gilleland Hollar, Durango, Colo.; Nancy Ellen Gilleland, Warrensburg, Mo.; Marjorie C. Gilleland, Winnett, Montana, and Leland M. Gilleland, at home. Three sisters and one brother also survive him. They are: Mrs. John W. Miller, Summerville, Mo.; Mrs. W. V. Spalding Olean, Mo.; Mrs. A.C. Stayton, Barnett, Mo.; and Dr. John L. Gilleland, Pulman, Washington. His devoted Christian life will live on forever as a beautiful memory and inspiration to all those who knew him. Funeral services were conducted from the Olean Christian Church of which he was an elder, by Elder A.L. Alexander, pastor of the Eldon Christian Church. His remains were laid to rest in the Olean Cemetery.
