Nichols committed suicide by hanging himself last Monday morning. He was a prominent and well to do farmer, residing six miles south east of Bronson being one of the oldest settlers of Bourbon county. The deceased has been acting rather strangely for some time and his many friends in this locality are of the opinion that his rash act was the result of an unbalanced mind; as the manner in which he took his life would indicate. The body was found by a member of the family hanging to a large oak tree near the barn with the feet almost touching the ground. It is understood that he climbed the tree, tied one end of the rope around his neck and the other to a limb, then jumped a distance of about thirty feet. ********************* Inscription on funeral card: Peaceful be the silent slumber Peaceful in the grave so low Thou no more will join our number Thou no more our sorrows know.
