Nichols, well-known Bourbon County farmer, died Monday in Topeka at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Griffith with whom he had been living. Mr. Nichols was 81 years old. Born in Bourbon County, Mr. Nichols was a farmer and spent his entire lifetime here. His wife preceded him in death several years ago. In addition to Mrs. Griffith he is survived by four other children; Mrs. Earl Baker, Garden City, Kansas; Mrs. Berniece Gibbs, Springfield, Illinois; Roy Nichols and Orlin Nichols of rural Bronson. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the South Fairview Church with the Rev. Baker of Bronson officiating. Burial was in the Hatch Cemetery. The Ralston Funeral Home was in charge. ----------------------------------- RITES FOR JOSEPH NICHOLS Funeral services for Joseph Everett Nichols, 81, a retired farmer of south of Bronson, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Griffith, Topeka, on Sept. 2, services were held Sept. 4 at the South Fairview Methodist Church, of which he was a member. The Rev. Clarence Baker officiated. Burial was in Hatch cemetery. Pallbearers were Glen Rogers, Ralph Stewart, Otis Brown, Eli Rhodon, Herbert Perry and Claude Cady. Music at the funeral was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Louis Pool, who sang hymns, accompanied by Mrs. Lee Harclerode of Osawatomie. The deceased, son of James and Margaret M. Ralston, Nichols, was born Sept. 8, 1875, near Uniontown. He was married Feb. 16, 1898, to Pluma Edith Turner in the Old Rockford Valley Presbyterian Church near Uniontown. With the exception of a few years spent in California, they made their home five miles south of Bronson. After Mrs. Nichols' death, Aug. 1, 1945, Mr. Nichols and his son Orland made their home together until sickness made it necessary for the deceased to live with his daughter, Mrs. Griffith, a registered nurse. In addition to the survivors which were published, there are nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
