Description	:	Born in Kilbirnie to John Orr and Christian McGregor. James served in the 93rd Regiment of Sutherland Highlanders from 1827 to 1837. He was stationed in Antigua, Barbados, Jamaica, West Indies, Dublin, and Liverpool and upon his discharge returned to Kilbirnie. In 1842 he joined his sister Marion and her new husband James Blair on the ship Oxford from Liverpool, England to New York arriving on May 23, 1842.
