He departed this life at his home in Geneva, Neb., at 9:30 p.m., Sunday, April 7, 1929, aged 71 years, 6 months and 13 days. December 21, 1882, he was united in marriage to Jennie Cadwallader. He departed this life at his home in Geneva, Neb., at 9:30 p.m., Sunday, April 7, 1929, aged 71 years, 6 months and 13 days. December 21, 1882, he was united in marriage to Jennie Cadwallader. To this union were born five children, one son, Lafe Owens of Fort Collins, Col., and four daughters, Mrs. Effa Dean of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Lola Weiss, Mrs. Rose Shaner and Mrs. Ruth Underwood, all of Geneva. Before coming to Nebraska for about twenty years, Mr. and Mrs. Owens made their home near Prairie city, Ia. Afterwards they lived on a farm near Geneva until about seven years ago, when they retired and moved into their present home in Geneva. Mr. Owens had been in poor health for about two years, during which time he bore his suffering in meekness and with the utmost patience until Sunday evening, when he heard the summons and quietly slipped into the Great Beyond. He is survived by his beloved companion, five children, twelve grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two brothers; tow sisters, besides a host of friends. The funeral was held at the Geneva United Brethren Church Tuesday afternoon, April 9. Rev. C. R. Bryant, pastor of the Chelsea Church officiated, assisted by Rev. E. W. Thompson. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Judge W. R. Fulton, Mrs. Lila Thompson, Mrs. Joy Bishop and Frank Hrubesky. The interment in the Geneva Cemetery was delayed until yesterday because of the inability of Lafe Owens to reach here before the funeral. The Nebraska Signal April 11th, 1929 page 2.
