Description	:	The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, December 13, 1894 On Monday morning C.R. Stoner received a message from Belleville, Kansas, announcing the critical illness of James R. French with request to come whither at once. Mrs. Stoner and Mrs. Charles Ferree of Edgar started on the morning train in answer to the summons. French was born in Fayette county (sic), Pennsylvania, January 20th, 1856. Moved with his parents to Nuckolls county (sic) in 1879 where he lived until recently, when he removed to Bellville, [sic] Kansas to take the pastorate of the Christian church in that place, in which work he was engaged until the time of his death. He served as principle [sic] of the public schools in Nelson two years; also as County Superintendent two terms, and as deputy treasurer, two terms. Mr. French made a profession of religion at the early age of 15, united with the Baptist church in which he was a faithful member until at the age of 18 when he united with the Christian church. He served for a number of years as Elder in the Christian church in Nelson, ever faithful, ever present at his post of duty at church, in the Sunday school and in the Endeavor, in which capacity, as Elder, he served until his removal to Bellville. It can be truthfully said, "He has fought a good fight." He died at Belleville, Kansas, December 10, 1894, aged 38 yrs, 10 mo, 20 das.
