French, retired farmer and for many years road supervisor in Nuckolls county (sic), died Wednesday (February 28) at his home, 1025 Harrison ave. (sic), at the age of 92. He came to Nebraska in a covered wagon 61 years ago and started a stock farm near Nelson. French, retired farmer and for many years road supervisor in Nuckolls county (sic), died Wednesday (February 28) at his home, 1025 Harrison ave. (sic), at the age of 92. He came to Nebraska in a covered wagon 61 years ago and started a stock farm near Nelson. A siege of hog cholera put him out of business, and for the next 30 years he served as county commissioner and road supervisor. In 1910 he and Mrs. French came to Lincoln and started the city's first waffle house. They were members of the Christian church (sic) here. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1930 and Mrs. French died three years ago. On his 92nd birthday, last October 8, Mr. French was still hale and active, read his daily newspaper without glasses, and remembered clearly the events of many years. He leaves three sons, Clyde C., Claude R. and Charles Frank French, all of Lincoln; and two sisters, Mrs. Rachel J. Stoner of Flint, Mich., and Mrs. Marguerite Ferree of Edgar. Funeral services were held at two o'clock Thursday at Browns. Rev. Walter Hill officiating. -- Lincoln State Journal. The body was brought to Nelson and laid to rest in the family lot in Nelson cemetery (sic), after a brief committal service.
