James Ramsbottom, former county commissioner, and resident of Republic county since 1874, died at his home near Munden, Mondy morning after a short illness. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from the Munden Methodist church and interment was in Ida cemetery. Coming to Republic county in a covered wagon in 1874 he located on a farm near the Ida community. Here he experienced the privations of pioneering, with drouths (sic) and grasshopper years. Mr. Ramsbottom served Republic county as an officer for eight years, twice being elected county commissioner, first in 1902 and then in 1922. Obituary James Ramsbottom was born near Pine River, Wis., May 2, 1852, and departed this life Monday, May 4, 1931 at the age of 79 years and 2 days. He was the second child of a family of nine children of John and Ellen Ramsbottom. Only three of the generation now survive. It was near his birthplace that he was reared to manhood. In the year 1874 he located in Republic county, near Ida, then a flourishing town and soon he purchased the farm on which he lived until death. Mr. Rambottom was a very industrious, thrifty man, always an interested supporter and firm believer of Christian work, and also in all public welfare, including all things that were just and right. He was an early pioneer of Republic county, going through the hardships of pioneer life, but through these difficulties he passed bravely. In the year 1881 he was united in marriage to Alta E. Bixler, and it was only the tenth of last April that they celebrated their fifieth wedding anniversary. This celebration was a great delight and pleasure for his wife and him to entertain an especially large number of their friends. To this marriage were born one daughter, Essa A., who preceded him in death in her early childhood, and three sons, Ralph , L. Glenn, and Merle C., all of whom have always lived in the Ida vicinity. He also has two foster daughters, Mrs. Inez Burchette, Erwin, Ia., and Mrs. Myrtle Rhine, Haddam, Kan. He is also survived by grandsons, Ival, Alvin, and Hal; three brothers Wallace, Buffalo, Wyo., Charles and Frank, Creston, Ia., and a large number of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. L. R. Fish, Kensington, Kan. assisted by the Rev. N. J. Croft, Narka, Rev. R. G. Strong, Munden and Rev. John Meredith, Smith Center.
