Born in Mullins, he was a son of the late James Thomas and Alpha Rogers McQueen. Born in Mullins, he was a son of the late James Thomas and Alpha Rogers McQueen. He served in the US Army from 1941 until 1945 and after infantry service in World War II in Europe, he finished his studies at Furman University. After graduating with a B.S. degree in 1948, he remained at Furman for 10 years to coach football. In the following years he was in the maintenance supply business. He retired in 1992 from Unisource. Surviving are his wife, Jean "Jimmie" Guthrie McQueen of the home; two daughters, Deborah M. (George Leland) Sloan of Easley and Barbara M. (James Walter) Maynard of Atlanta; two sons, James (Jaimie McNair) McQueen of Florence and Andrew Guthrie (Teague Andrew) McQueen of Columbia; five sisters, Almira M. Wiggins of Mullins, Olive Ree Robertson of Jacksonville, Fla., Vivien M. Fitchet of Dunn, NC, Tommie M. McCall of Cayce and Betty Jo Spann of Greenville; two brothers, Col. J. T. McQueen of Enterprise, Ala. and Daniel R. McQueen of Rock Hill; and 10 grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fourth Presbyterian Church with Dr. Allen McSween officiating. The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive.
