GREENVILLE - Jean (Jimmie) Irene Guthrie McQueen, widow of James Rogers McQueen, died peacefully at home on October 31, 2012. She was born in Hampshire, England. She was the daughter of the late Commander and Mrs. Andrew Richmond Guthrie. Jimmie served in the British Women's Land Army three years during World War II where she met her husband during the war. She was born in Hampshire, England. She was the daughter of the late Commander and Mrs. Andrew Richmond Guthrie. She came to America in 1946 and worked at Furman University, where her husband returned to school after the war. She was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church since coming to the United States. She was past Moderator of the Women of the Church, past President of the YWCA, past President of The Carolinian Debutante Club, past member of The Quadrille, Member of the Poinsett Club and Greenville Country Club. Surviving are her four children, James Rogers McQueen, Jr., (Jaimie), Deborah McQueen Sloan (Jerry), Barbara McQueen Maynard (Jim) and Andrew Guthrie McQueen (Teague); a sister, Lila Guthrie Ballard (Derek); 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Jimmie was predeceased by two brothers and a sister. She is leaving behind a wonderful legacy for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, of grace, kindness, positive outlook and being so wonderfully nurturing. A private family inurnment will be held at the Memorial Garden followed by a Memorial Service at Fourth Presbyterian Church, Monday, November 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. to celebrate her beautiful life and spirit.
