Description	:	J. William "Bill" Mann, 92, a resident of Fredericksburg, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, in Chancellor's Village. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Anne Bolling Clarke Mann, in 2002. Mr. Mann graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (V.P.I.), class of 1940, with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. Bill is survived by his three children, Jane, Jim and Jeff; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Anne Bolling Clarke Mann, in 2002. Mr. Mann graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (V.P.I.), class of 1940, with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. Bill is survived by his three children, Jane, Jim and Jeff; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Bill and Anne resided in Springfield, Virginia, prior to retiring to Fredericksburg, Virginia, in 1982. Bill started his illustrious career in construction as a child in Rhoadesville, Virginia, with the help of his cousins by building a succession of clubhouses. It should be noted that the clubhouse 3 still stands 75 years later. He worked for Charles H. Tompkins Company, a division of J.A. Jones and participated in the construction of the International Monetary Fund, C.I.A. and Memphis Airport to name just a few. The hallmark of his construction career was a project manager of the East Wing of the National Gallery of Art. In his 80's, he was fundamental in the construction of two large building additions of the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church. They say old engineers never die, they just run out of projects. Bill also was an avid golfer and dancer. He enriched the lives of all those he came in contact with and exposed to his zest for life, knowledge, kind nature and love for family and friends. He had the ability to make many new friends wherever he went. Funeral services were held at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, 308 Hanover Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22401 540-373-9021 on Monday, July 18, 2011. There was a reception from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. A graveside service was held at 3:30 p.m. for those who wished to attend at Rhoadesville Baptist Church in Rhoadesville, Virginia. To honor Bill's love of children, in lieu of sending flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Youth Ministries at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, 308 Hanover Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22401 540-373-9021. Preddy Funeral Home of Orange is in charge of arrangements.
