Kail James Winfred Kail, son of Will D. and Cora Kail, was born at Carlisle, Iowa, Dec. 18, 1887, and died at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, April 8, 1946, at the age of 58 years, 3 months and 21 days. He spent most of his boyhood in Carlisle and was graduated form the Carlisle high school. Later he was graduated from the Highland Park college of pharmacy in Des Moines. He came to Stratford as a druggist in the fall of 1908, and was united in marriage to Clara Mae Johnson of Stratford, April 27, 1910. Three children were born to this unity, 2 sons, Corliss and Kenneth and one daughter, Mavis. Mrs. Kail preceded him in death, passing from this life in the fall of 1937. The greater part of his married life was spent farming, from 1938 to 1944. He was also engaged in business in Stratford. In December, a serious illness set in, from which he did not recover. His parents and one sister, Mrs. Mary Leftwick, preceded him in death. Left to mourn are two sons, one daughter, four grandchildren, three brothers, Dr. Carl and Everett Kail of Carlisle and Frank Kail of Des Moines, besides other relatives and a host of friends. Last rites were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Calvary Methodist church conducted by the pastor, the Rev. J.G. Waterman, who used for his text words found in 2 Corinthians 5:1. Two songs, "No Night There," and "Ivory Palaces" were sung by a mixed quartette composed of A.T. Johnson, Sam Swedlund, Mrs. Max Gilchrist and Miss Minnie Williams, with Mrs. Ronald Bell as accompanist. A solo entitled, "The Beautiful Garden of Prayer," was sung by Mrs. Max Gilchrist. The remains were interred in the South Marion cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers: M.C. Carlson, Roy Barquist, Clifford Johnson, Myron Waller, Homer Mellgren and Roy Hansen of Boone.
