Yancy McCraw, well-known Gaffney businessman, died suddenly at 1:25 Thursday morning at the Cherokee County Hospital. He was 53. Mr. McCraw was associated for many years in the hardware business here with his brother, Lamar C. McCraw, and their father, the late J. Virgil McCraw. Friends said Mr. McCraw collapsed at his home about 10:30 Wednesday night an hour or more after he and Mrs. McCraw returned from a visit to Louisville, Ky. He was taken to the hospital where he succombed about three hours later. He was a member of the Grassy Pond Baptist church and Lafayette Lodge No. 330, Masonic fraternal order. A veteran of World War I, Mr. McCraw served overseas 13 months during the conflict. He was a native of Cherokee county and resided on Union street here. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Grassy Pond church with the Rev. E. Grey Jones, the pastor, and the Rev. Frank E. Morris, pastor of the First Baptist church officiating. Burial was in the Grassy Pond cemetery with the Shuford-Hatcher Company, morticians, in charge. Active pallbearers were J.I. McCulloch, Charles Cooksey, Oscar Elmore, Roland Barnhill, Avant McCraw, Charles R. Garrison, Wayne LeMaster and Sam Miller. Honorary pallbearers included Onnie Mullinax, H.G. Curry, the Rev. Charles R. Bailey, Ralph LeMaster, T.L. Brown, Walter Brown, J.C. Bonner, G.L. Sarratt, G.G. Watts, Ed Cromer, R.B. Trogdon, Tom Crews, Haile LeMaster, Mr. Ezell, Joe Lavery, Dr. J.C. Hall, Dr. G. Preston Edwards, Charles J. Hamrick, C. Keys Sanders, June Byers, Bez Blanton and Neil Petty. Mr. McCraw is survived by his wife, Mrs. Floree Sarratt McCraw; his mother, Mrs. Mary Swofford McCraw; four brothers, Blucher, Lynn and Lamar McCraw, of Gaffney and L.G. McCraw, of Sandy Springs; four sisters, Mrs. R.A. Humphries, Mrs. A.E. Morgan, Mrs. E.H. Sutton, of Gaffney, and Mrs. R.L. Crowder, of Durham, N.C.
