Brown of Laurel and his friends who were with him met with a bad accident. Mr. Brown had a span of horses and a democrat wagon. Through some cause the tongue of the wagon broke and before the horses could be stopped the wagon was upset and the occupants injured. Mr. Brown had one rib broken and received other injuries; Mrs. Wallace of Blacks Corners, mother of John S. Wallace, received serious internal injuries and is in a very serious critical condition; Mrs. Eversden of St. Louis, Mo., was badly injured about the head, two arteries were cut and she received wounds on the head that required 22 stitches. There was also a young woman who received minor injuries. Dr. H. D. Thompson, assisted by Dr. S. T. White, attended to their injuries. Shelburne Free Press, September 4, 1913 INJURIES PROVED FATAL Mrs. Wallace, who was reported in these columns last week as having sustained serious injuries in a runaway accident on Saturday, Aug. 23rd, died at her home, lot 20, con. 4, Amaranth, on Thursday, Aug. 28th. Owing to her advanced age her constitution was unable to stand the shock, together with the injuries she received. Deceased was 76 years of age, and was the widow of the late William Wallace, who predeceased her some eight of ten years ago. A large circle of relatives are left to mourn her loss. The sons are Messrs. John S. Wallace, Laurel; and Geo., Ernest, and W. H. Wallace, all in the employ of railway corporations in the United States, and Alfred Wallace, in the West. The daughters are Mrs. Eversden of St. Louis and Miss Lucy Wallace at home. Besides those of her own family, two brothers, Messrs. George and S. J. Brown, of Laurel, survive. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon, Sept. 1st, to Orangeville cemetery and was largely attended. The sorrowing friends have the sympathy of the community in their sudden bereavement.
